Cyndy Carstens

A life-long student of the arts, I have worked as an art director, creative director, illustrator, muralist, and fine art painter. Add some interior and furniture design, and small business owner of a boutique greeting card company and a graphic design studio, and you have my professional “art mix”.

These days, my work is concentrated solely on fine art painting. My oil paintings are inspired by atmospheres of light and shadow in the complexion of color. The light of the heavens inhales and exhales, breathing diversity – vibrant then subtle – while at any given time, unlike a few minutes before.

I also find the personalities found in nature’s tree forms particularly interesting. Many of my paintings will incorporate minimal landscape with large tree images overlaying skyscapes. The older or uglier the tree, the more profound they seem to be.

I observe special attention to movement, composition, emotion and detail while fusing large swaths of color contrasted by delicate marks. My work synthesizes components of impressionism, expressionism, abstraction with fragments of realism.

Artist instruments include paint brushes, palette knives, blades, cut-up credit cards, trowels, and various other unusual apparatus.
